Perfect your wall display. All these images are from my inspiration file and show examples of well hung artwork.
Single enticing artworks need space.
Positioned within context to the surrounding space. The artwork above is highlighted by the spotlight and repeats the colours within the room.
Impactful by being perfectly positioned. It’s a complete picture with lamp, side table and chair working together. I love that red frame.
With both artwork and fireplace the same width, symmetry is enhanced. If there's a recessed ceiling light I'd be tilting it toward the shapes and layers of the artwork.
To get the balance right furniture placed below an artwork should be the same width or wider.
Clever thinking - If you lack wall space then why not hang your artworks on movable frames?
Gallery style artworks.
Are the perfect solution if you have an unrelated collection. Stairwells are ideal places to hang gallery style artworks. Here portraits, graphic, contemporary, animals and still life work harmoniously together.
Spread it out and fill up the entire wall space.
Or take it to the ceiling but confine the space by having a border either side.
Grouping genres together. Left - nudes with a mirror thrown in to one side creates the perfect balance and fills the wall space.
Right - I love this moody space. All the artworks have a maritime theme.
I love how this collection of portraits is positioned to be viewed seated at the dining table. The wall mural adds an interesting background.
Bedrooms are your Sanctuary.
A current client has large empty walls in her bedroom. Should we fill them? Not necessarily. Empty space can set the tone for serenity. I like the size and positioning of the artworks above. Less is more. Simplicity.
Inspiration has come from the triptych artwork. The pretty pink and blue floral duvet cover repeats the flowers in the artwork beautifully. The large pattern of the blue and white check fabric adds balance.
How impactful is this? Another artwork which creates the inspiration for the space. Selecting colours from the artwork for the wall and bedhead make this artwork stand out. The simple light fittings and geometric pattern on the headboard add another dimension. Symmetry and harmony working together.

The variety is large with wall-hung artwork / paintings, large works up to 2.4m wide, sculptures, object art, glass works, jewellery, ceramics and more.

Saturday 20 April: 10am - 8pm, OR Sunday 21 April: 10am - 5pm
Each person must present their own ticket on their phone or in print form at the entry. Enjoy this treat and you may find a beautiful artwork that will complement your home.

Looking for something to do this weekend? Having a spare hour between meetings in Porirua this week I visited Pātaka Art + Museum. What a fantastic place with visually stunning exhibitions, delicious café and enticing store.
Paraikete Threads is an exhibition all about blankets. From upcycling vintage blankets into clothing to simply beautiful fine weaving of new blankets.
The Toi store sells affordable art too, it all looked tempting…
