Refresh Your Laundry Routine

A New Laundry

We are excited about our new laundry space, which is nearly complete with a floating shelf currently being manufactured and artwork to source.

Our washer/dryer combo was a smart choice, optimising bench space for ease of use. We've efficiently organised our cleaning supplies into one cupboard above the bench top.

The checkerboard splash back adds a vibrant focal point and the chrome tap matches the kitchen tap, with the mixer on the right for consistency. Additionally, a unique cowhide mat, made from an off cut of vinyl sheet flooring, adds a distinctive touch.

The tall cupboard on the left is home to broom, mops, bucket, vacuum cleaner, laundry baskets and a torch! The other cupboard holds vacuum attachments, shoe-care gear, a window vac, iron, and fold-down ironing board. Plus I specified 155 degree hinges on this door so that it's out of the way when ironing. The ironing board swivels and is an extra bench top when required.

Although we could not fit a pull-out laundry basket, we've removed the shelf under the sink and replaced with a large basket for dirty laundry.

The chrome handles are slender, timeless, and have rounded edges for easy grip. The light fitting enhances the scheme; the cage is painted white and the shade green to complement the design.

Maximise your laundry space with these expert tips.

  • Increase storage by adding more shelves to your cupboards, even if it's compact like ours (inside dimensions W366 x  D300mm).
  • Relocate under sink pipework to the back for additional storage space. (if possible)
  • Consider installing a fold-down or drawer ironing board for efficiency. I wanted a full-size board for ironing my long dresses.
  • When choosing washing and drying machines, select options that meet your specific needs; a washer/dryer combo is ideal for us.
  • Install a laundry chute.  On a new build project I worked on a few years ago we were able to install a laundry chute. The laundry was directly beneath the study. With four bedrooms upstairs this was a great addition.

The 101 of working with an interior designer (me).

Interior Design is a short-term investment for long term return on investment (ROI). Invest once and reap the benefits for years to come. However, the best interior design needn’t cost a fortune. It only needs to catch your eye. It’s all about getting the best that you can afford.

Are we all on board?

Are you both (couple) in agreement that you need to hire an interior designer. For a successful journey you both need to fully opt in.

Good communication is an indicator of project success.

Both should attend all meetings. As decision makers you need to participate in the design process so that everyone’s desires are being met.

Share your total budget.

Tell me your budget and any other constraints you may have. Not doing so can impact on my ability to deliver a quality service and product to you.

Hire me when you begin your planning.

I may challenge you, or throw other ideas into consideration, because that is what I do: extending ideas and creating a space that works well.

Trust me and the process.

You need to trust that I will do my best work for you. I’ll stake my reputation on this. However, I need to trust that you will pay my invoice.

The Apartment Project Update

These city apartment dwellers deserve a gold for their patience in advancing this project. Despite some setbacks, a stunning new kitchen is scheduled for installation in mid-August. Following this, we will complete the open-plan living and dining area. Next, we will continue with the renovation of three bathrooms. Stay tuned for further updates.

Family Living Project - Room Refresh Update

This family of five (plus a cute little dog) asked me to help transform their open-plan living and dining area. The house, built in 2015, already had great bones—double-glazed windows, good carpets, and solid fixtures—but it lacked warmth and storage. Their brief was simple: create a space that reflects family life, is welcoming, and has plenty of room for entertaining.

We identified a serious that a lack of storage, and I'm happy to let you know that this project has begun. The painter is booked and we've just ordered the media unit and sideboard. They are the deal breakers for this project.
